Hey all!
The week's been a little busy, a lot of our projects are starting to overlap. We had one on Thursday where we went to the local developments (one functioning hotel and two condos set to be finished within 2 years) and interviewed people to see what kind of things they had going on.
My group went to High Point, which is not the name of the actual complex, just what we call it...since its on the highest point of South. It's AWFUL. It's like the worse Florida condo complex exploded. They're builing 1000 rooms in 6 buildings, and they call themselves all-inclusive. Restaurants, casinos, pools, stores, and...drumroll please...in phase two they're planning to build an 18-hole golf course and an ice skating rink! High point will change the whole dynamic of this island, if it is at full capacity it will more than double the population. It's been in progress for 16 years, so I'm hoping they won't finish for another 16. The other two hotels are much smaller and more sustainable.
We've also been working on a conch assessment, where we've been studying the conch inside and outside a marine protected area and determining if they are bigger/older/more mature, etc, inside vs. outside. All that came together yesterday in a 9 hour number crunching session! Haha Not one of the most fun days around here....haha.
Other news...went for the hunt for a new beach on Sunday and found Shark Bay. It's about a three mile walk, we guessed, but it's beautiful. Pictures will show up eventually.
Aside from that, not much new stuff. I'm headed to Provo tonight with 12 of my classmates. Spring break officially starts tomorrow! My parents are coming in to spend the week. Can't wait!
